Anthony's take
By Anthony Martinez, The Leander Local · Updated June 2026
Weikel's makes cinnamon rolls that are soft, cinnammy, and exactly as sweet as they should be, plus kolaches worth a 35-minute drive. The lemon is mine, the apricot is my wife's, and the sausage kolaches are the savory snack I keep going back for. People mail these things across the country on GoldBelly to give Bohemian dads a taste of childhood, and I get it.
Now the honesty: the experience is uneven. The room can be clean and welcoming with food that does not quite live up to the setting, and the service runs from inattentive to invisible. I have heard of folks walking in after open to an empty display and zero acknowledgment. When the kolaches are out and fresh, it is a destination. When they are not, it is a bakery inside a Valero.
The Order
Sausage kolaches, the lemon and apricot fruit kolaches, and a cinnamon roll.
⚠ Gotcha
It is tucked inside a Valero gas station, and the case can be empty or the staff checked out. Call ahead or go early.
