The word on Loly's ice cream Leander

Here's the word going around

I haven't let Rigo make me a flavor yet, so this is the regulars' read, not mine.

Anthony, The Leander Local · Last checked August 2026

By most accounts Loly's smells like a paleteria in Mexico, the kind people grew up chasing down on hot afternoons, and the nostalgia is no accident. Reviewers say owner Rigo runs it with his whole heart: friendly, takes flavor requests, and makes the ice cream and paletas in house with fresh fruit. The Arroz con Leche paleta draws soft-spot devotion, the white-corn elote gets called the authentic move, sweet and savory and exactly right, and the aguas frescas land ridiculous in the best way.

This, the reviews say, is the immigrant kitchen worth championing: scratch-made, family-run, staffed by people who smile like they mean it. There are dairy-free options too, the Chamoyada a riot of sweet and tangy, and the whole room spotless. Brownsville came to Leander, and people aren't leaving.

Scratch-made paletas and a guy who'll build a flavor to order? I'm chasing that down on a hot afternoon.

The Order

Reviewers point to the white-corn elote, an Arroz con Leche paleta, and an agua fresca, all made by Rigo's hands.

That's the word on this one.
