The word on La Chaparrita Meat Market
Here's the word going around
I haven't put my faith in this chef yet, so this is the regulars' read, not mine.

By most accounts this market is the one people are mad they waited on. There's so much to browse you could lose an afternoon, but the kitchen inside is the draw. Reviewers describe asking the chef to pick a torta and getting the Raul Torta, as tasty as it was generous, and they call the carnitas and barbacoa tacos the standouts, with a tip: if a cook named Cris is making the carnitas, get them, no questions. Wash it down with an agua fresca.
It pulls double duty as a legit local market too: a respectable meat and deli counter, a great produce section, dry goods, Latin snacks, and hot food served right there. More than one household swears by the menudo. A real neighborhood spot, the reviews say, that earns the loyalty.
A chef who'll build me the perfect torta if I just ask? That's a trust exercise I'm ready for.
The Order
Reviewers point to the Raul Torta, the carnitas tacos (especially if Cris is on), and an agua fresca.
That's the word on this one.
