Anthony's take

By Anthony Martinez, The Leander Local · Updated June 2026

Desi Hangout sits in downtown Leander and the room itself sells you before the food does: real greenery, mature trees, seating tucked into all of it. I had a morning here that felt like a small vacation. The fried rice came out perfectly balanced, the noodles took me somewhere, and the puri potato curry with idli is a breakfast I'd drive back for. This place is a sister to Mama Bros over in Pflugerville, and on a good day you feel that pedigree.

But I'm honest about the dips. The paneer schezwan that used to sing now arrives muted, paneer with no real flavor and a sauce drowning it like every other middling spot. The schezwan noodles tasted great but the chicken wasn't fresh, and that's a problem you can't garnish away. The bones here are excellent. They just need to stop letting the standard slip.

The Order

The breakfast combo, puri potato curry with idli, and the fried rice. Those don't lie.

⚠ Gotcha

The paneer dishes have slid from their old standard. Stick to breakfast and the rice, and watch the chicken.
