Anthony's take
By Anthony Martinez, The Leander Local · Updated June 2026
Dau Sushi is the close-to-home sushi spot I am glad exists, and Dau himself is the reason. The man prepares the rolls and the friendliness pours off the staff. The gyoza and rock shrimp both crushed, the shaggy dog roll earns every bit of its reputation, the spicy rainbow was clean and fresh, and the sashimi came beautifully cut with crispy textures stacked on the specialty rolls. Presentation that actually looks like somebody cared.
Not everyone leaves singing. One night the room felt off to me, the music skewing somber when I wanted a livelier sushi-bar energy, and a few regulars will tell you other Austin spots edge it on the fish. But the food has been delicious every time the kitchen is on, and Dau treats you like you are hanging out at a friend's place. That counts for a lot.
The Order
The shaggy dog roll, the rock shrimp, gyoza to start, and a spicy rainbow roll. Sashimi if it is fresh that day.
⚠ Gotcha
The room can run quiet and the music moody. Come for the fish and Dau's hospitality, not a party atmosphere.
