By most accounts Chowrastha looks like an Indian coffee shop living inside a grocery store, and that's exactly its charm. Reviewers say the menu runs from street-food snacks to rich curries, biryanis, dosa, and South Indian breakfast, so whatever the craving, comforting or fiery, it's on there. Prices read good, portions generous, the room clean, calm and genuinely welcoming, and people walk out understanding the following.
Not everything sang. The hakka noodles, by a few accounts, brought heat but came up a touch short on flavor, fine but not haunting. And the warning that keeps coming up: check your bag before you walk out, after talk of two Mandi orders going home as one.
A dosa shop hiding in a grocery store is exactly my kind of detour, and I'm taking it.
