Anthony's take
By Anthony Martinez, The Leander Local · Updated June 2026
Chowrastha looks like an Indian coffee shop living inside a grocery store, and that's exactly its charm. The menu runs from street-food snacks to rich curries, biryanis, dosa, and South Indian breakfast, so whatever I'm craving, comforting or fiery, it's on there. Prices are good, portions are generous, and the room itself is clean, calm, and genuinely welcoming. I walked out understanding why this place has a following.
Not everything sang. The hakka noodles brought the heat but came up a touch short on flavor for me, the kind of dish that's fine but doesn't haunt you. And here's the warning: check your bag before you walk out. I've heard of two Mandi orders going home as one, and there's nothing worse than realizing you're short when friends are already at the table.
The Order
The mutton biryani and a dosa. Lean into the South Indian side of that big menu.
